MAJOR EVENTS

BEAST MASTER
Due to being the only one able to get close to Cu Chulainn and calm him down while in werewolf form, locals around the area of DunDealgan start to regard Merida as a beast master of sorts. Considering how she feels about his warp spasms, she doesn't exactly like this apparent appointment but if it's to protect him from any sort of torches-and-pitchforks scenario, she'll take it on. [ ✖ ]

TRUST IN BLOOD
A search through Treun for the escaped convicts of Leathann turns into a dangerous situation. In a moment of desperation, Merida accidentally kills a convict who has the intent of doing something unsavory to her. Traumatized, it's Gilgamesh of all people who pulls her through and reassures her that she did nothing wrong. The golden king, unwittingly, earns himself her trust and loyalty.

LADY LIONESS
The year had seen to a great deal of change in Merida. Not just in something deciding that her fate lay within the other court, but in herself and the actions that she took, in the thoughts that she processed. Some part of her became...less idealistic, as it were, more open to the idea that this was war. It had taken her just near a year in the Drabwurld to accept that as fact, that she'd only be seeing home in her dreams, and half a year later to find it in herself to move on. This land of the fae was her reality now. These were her people. And that was why she needed to protect them. [ ✖ ]

MAJOR CHANGES

SORCERESS
Merida has started to take her magical studies more seriously than before. By the end of the time skip, she should be appropriately trained in all the magics she has taken on, both fire and runic magic.

WARRIOR
Likewise, Merida has been honing her combat skills throughout the year. With a new sword from Diarmuid as of August and a new bow from Wan as of Yule, she'll feel as though she'll be better prepared for any of the future battles. Having killed her first human (accidentally), Merida starts accepting the idea that it's okay to kill people sometimes.

SUMMARY OF KNOWN DETAILS
For the most of it, Merida will be working on training in both her fire magic and her shard, along with learning some runes from Lancer, when she's not taking part in any of the events happening. Gaining influence in the surrounding area. Strengthening and being able to control her magic will be one of her primary focuses. She'll also be helping out around DunDealgan since she'll feel partially responsible for everyone there, considering she's courting its Lord. Many of her efforts will be going towards building up better personal relations between DunDealgan and the natives surrounding the area.

Another thing that I have planned is for her to open up a combat school for women of either court and/or natives only, offering it as a place of refuge during times of battle, and once she's lost her idealism and become a little more war hardened, offer her students out as mercenaries. This will all take time, possibly over the course of two time skips, but ideally I'd like to start planning things out now.

[You did what you had to do. Gilgamesh had said something along the same lines when he found her, that she didn't do anything wrong. Merida nuzzled her head under his chin, curling herself to sit as well as she could in his one arm. She'd been going to say he'd deserved it if Diarmuid had said anything else than what he did, but for now there's a low, mournful noise from the back of her throat as she rests her muzzle against his neck.]

I'm...I've been tryin' not to think about it. Since Gilgamesh took care of me.

He did? Good. I will have to repay him for taking such good care of you.

[It's papa's duty and all.]

Unfortunately, this is not the kind of thing you just can not think about. You have to come to terms with it, my darling girl. It won't just go away if you don't think about it. It will still be there, festering, making you feel worse and worse.

[Diarmuid sighs then, realizing something important.]

There are things I have been doing that with and trust me, it's not helped. I really need to take some time and work them out...

I've been tryin' to think of how myself. I owe him a great deal.

[She didn't know what would have happened if the king hadn't found her, and it was something she didn't want to think about. She'd be different, that's for sure. Merida nestles her head near his collarbone, making a noise.]

I know. He deserved it. I just wish I didn't feel awful about it.

[Awful and guilty. Though she looks at him out the corner of her eye when he says that. She had a feeling she knew what about but she didn't want to say anything to upset him.]

Kings are not the easiest people to thank. That is for sure...

[Diarmuid laughs softly and then gives Merida a comforting squeeze, rubbing his chin gently against her head as he does.]

Listen, the reason you feel so awful is because you know just how big a thing taking a life is. Even if he was the most horrible person to ever live, he was still a person and you ended his life. This is a feeling you need to remember no matter how many more lives you may need to end during your lifetime. Each life has value and each life has weight. Only take that life if you are willing to take that weight upon your shoulders.

[Merida grows quiet at that, resting in his arm and against his chest. In a way, she was glad that her first experience killing someone else wasn't on the battlefield, glad that she'd let that soldier go after Cu Chulainn was pierced through. That was one thing to take away from it. Now she knew what it felt like, what to expect if she had to do it again. Her tail droops over his arm, a small sigh leaving her.]

I know. At least if it happens again, I'll be ready for what it feels like.

[Accidental or on purpose.]

And I will always be here for you. Don't ever forget that.

[Diarmuid presses a kiss to the top of her head and then reaches over, giving her tail a gentle pull.]

Enough of that for now. This is suppose to be a happy and fun time, right? Even the White Hart himself was having fun before he came to his end. We should follow his example. No more serious talk, okay?

I know you will, papa.

[Merida closes her eyes at the kiss to her head, then yips at the tug on her tail, pulling her head back to give him a look. The tip of her tail wriggles in his hand before she sighs.]

Ach, aye. [She'd be glad to get away from the topic anyway, and it shows in the way she relaxes in his grasp.] What have you been up to aside from th' hunt?

[Diarmuid is relieved when he feels her relax. While he is sure that she still has a lot to think about, hopefully this will help her sort things out more easily when she does.]

Well, as I mentioned, I did some hunting of the inmates as well, but I don't really have any exciting stories to share. I caught a few and returned them to where they belonged. I was probably lucky. Many of them saw my missing arm and underestimated me. I took several of them out with very little fighting at all.

[Her ears flick as she listens to him, a small snort of amusement leaving her at that. If there was anything she took away from her time in the Drabwurld, it was that people would underestimate others more often than not. It just made her want to work harder to keep her skills in shape.]

Well I hope they learned their lessons then. [Her tail puffs and twitches up adorably, almost like a cat.] An' know my papa's th' strongest.

Thank you my darling girl, even if I know you are biased.

[Diarmuid leans down to press a kiss to the top of her head.]

It's too bad you weren't there to see the looks on their faces when they realized what had happened. Ah, they were so surprised and put out.

Do you have any ideas what you will do while you are stuck like this?

I like to think of myself as selectively minded.

[Merida's tail wags in his hand and her ears pull back slightly at the kiss before she lets out a small laugh, even though his next question has her pause and sigh.]

I'm not sure. Cu would probably fall over himself laughin' if I showed up at th' fort like this.

[The tone of her voice says she's joking, though she honestly doesn't know what his real reaction would be.]

[Diarmuid gives her tail one more gentle pull and then lets it go so he can stroke her back with a few fingers.]

Look at it this way, if he underestimates you and laughs like that, while he is distracted you have the perfect chance to jump on him and take your revenge. Tickle him with your tail! Lick him! Climb on his head. There are so many ways to make him sorry for laughing...

[Because, Diarmuid can see him laughing, so it is only proper that he helps his little girl plan her revenge.]

[That gets a laugh out of her in return, imagining the look on Cu Chulainn's face if she did that. It would certainly be worth it if that was the case. Merida's tail wags a little, grinning from ear to ear.]

Maybe if I do it th' pups'll follow suit an' dogpile on him with me.

[Diarmuid bursts out laughing at the mental image that brings to mind.]

That would be great. I could loan you Oscar and Carroll to help out if you need just a few more to make with that pile with...

[One look at Lorcan and it's easy to see him wagging his tail in anticipation of pouncing on dad. Merida, on the other hand, giggles along with Diarmuid.]

I think twelve hounds and one fox will be enough to take him down.

Ah now, don't underestimate Ireland's greatest hero....

[Diarmuid gives her a playful wink and then laughs again.]

Well, then make sure you tickle him good for me, okay?

I pushed him once an' he didn't budge. It's goin' to take twelve full grown pups an' me, trust me.

[The comment makes her frown at him again, ears twitching.]

You're not goin' to stick around?

[Diarmuid closes his eyes for a moment, looking down.]

I am not sure I should. I don't think I have done enough to prove to him that I am still me. It is probably best if I keep my distance from him for a while longer.

[Merida tilts her head up to nuzzle under his chin, nestling it against the crook of his shoulder. 'Dummy' is muttered under her breath, though it could be used for both himself and Cu Chulainn, though the latter was being the biggest dummy about this.]

Then I should at least visit you.

[A small smile crosses Diarmuid's face at the muttered word and her nuzzling. It's amazing how such simple things from the right person can make him feel so much better.]

Whenever it has been too long since I have been back to the castle to visit, you are always welcome to come see me. I will never turn you away.

[She licked the corner of his jaw before pulling her head back, a small whine in the back of her throat before she yips.]

Send me a note with where you are an' I shall. I'm not leavin' you alone.

Ah...my baby girl, you are far too kind to me. Thank you.

[It's hard to express just how touched he is. No matter how often people offer to do things like this for him, it is still surprising. It shouldn't be, but it is.]

Most of the time I will be at Caer Glaem working on finishing my training grounds. Other times, I just wander from place to place.

[The Barrel, Thrall's Trading Post, and Alyosha's Villa to name a few of the places.]

[An ear flicks when he mentions Caer Glaem. She hasn't been back there since waking up, all those months ago. But, Merida thinks to herself, maybe I could go back if I was with him.]

I'll stop by th' trainin' grounds then. I wouldn't want to bother you if you're stayin' elsewhere.

You are never a bother, silly girl and if you say that again, I will dangle you by your tail.

[Diarmuid's voice is very serious, but after a moment, it is obvious he is not being serious about his threat, but because he is worried about her.]

Are you sure you are okay going into Caer Glaem?

You wouldn't.

[Her ears pull back as she growls in her throat at the thought before she quietens at the question. Merida shakes her head, tail twitching in nervousness.]

I can't avoid it forever. Besides, nobody's seen th' monarchs in eight months, haven't they? I'm not goin' to run into Solais any time soon.
