MAJOR EVENTS
BEAST MASTER
Due to being the only one able to get close to Cu Chulainn and calm him down while in werewolf form, locals around the area of DunDealgan start to regard Merida as a beast master of sorts. Considering how she feels about his warp spasms, she doesn't exactly like this apparent appointment but if it's to protect him from any sort of torches-and-pitchforks scenario, she'll take it on. [ ✖ ]
TRUST IN BLOOD
A search through Treun for the escaped convicts of Leathann turns into a dangerous situation. In a moment of desperation, Merida accidentally kills a convict who has the intent of doing something unsavory to her. Traumatized, it's Gilgamesh of all people who pulls her through and reassures her that she did nothing wrong. The golden king, unwittingly, earns himself her trust and loyalty. [ ✖ ]
LADY LIONESS
The year had seen to a great deal of change in Merida. Not just in something deciding that her fate lay within the other court, but in herself and the actions that she took, in the thoughts that she processed. Some part of her became...less idealistic, as it were, more open to the idea that this was war. It had taken her just near a year in the Drabwurld to accept that as fact, that she'd only be seeing home in her dreams, and half a year later to find it in herself to move on. This land of the fae was her reality now. These were her people. And that was why she needed to protect them. [ ✖ ]
MAJOR CHANGES
SORCERESS
Merida has started to take her magical studies more seriously than before. By the end of the time skip, she should be appropriately trained in all the magics she has taken on, both fire and runic magic.
WARRIOR
Likewise, Merida has been honing her combat skills throughout the year. With a new sword from Diarmuid as of August and a new bow from Wan as of Yule, she'll feel as though she'll be better prepared for any of the future battles. Having killed her first human (accidentally), Merida starts accepting the idea that it's okay to kill people sometimes.

PLANS
- co-parenting wolfhound pups with Lancer
- fire magic training
- shard training
- become known as some kind of beast master by the locals
- visit the new Barrel once a month
- bandit stomping along a trade route with Korra
- swan shooting competition with Gilgamesh in April
- Treun tourney
- Samhain
- White Hart Hunt II: the Hart's Revenge
SUMMARY OF KNOWN DETAILS
For the most of it, Merida will be working on training in both her fire magic and her shard, along with learning some runes from Lancer, when she's not taking part in any of the events happening. Gaining influence in the surrounding area. Strengthening and being able to control her magic will be one of her primary focuses. She'll also be helping out around DunDealgan since she'll feel partially responsible for everyone there, considering she's courting its Lord. Many of her efforts will be going towards building up better personal relations between DunDealgan and the natives surrounding the area.
Another thing that I have planned is for her to open up a combat school for women of either court and/or natives only, offering it as a place of refuge during times of battle, and once she's lost her idealism and become a little more war hardened, offer her students out as mercenaries. This will all take time, possibly over the course of two time skips, but ideally I'd like to start planning things out now.

The dragon-tamer, huh. [Or, that's what he assumed he was, given what he heard--and the presence of the dragon as well.]
Though, I don't get it. Wouldn't Jack have a fun time out in weather like this? Thinkin' about it, this oughta be an accident rather than somethin' done on purpose.

[At the very least they'd be able to offer nice warm shelter to passerby's who sought it or those who needed rescuing from the cold. Something in Merida told her it was going to last whether it was Jack or not. She gave a small sigh, dropping her hand after another rune and crossing her arms behind her back as she dropped back to walk alongside him rather than have him follow her.]
It feels like that to me too. Somethin' about the air just seems...off.
[Merida purses her lips together.]
I haven't heard any birds lately.

[To demonstrate, Lancer lifted one hand and gestured idly, a few sparrows flying out from the fortress to do a few circles around the two of them. They were silent, operating more mechanically than naturally. There was a distinct problem with them.
As far as he knew, Lancer's pet eagle had behaved much the same way. It wasn't exactly something he would let slide when it came to his pets, but Lancer had figured the eagle needed to fly around out in the open more often than perch itself in his study. It was a disappointment at first and he had only grown concerned afterwards.]
I dunno what the problem is, but with this cold-front and everythin', the birds have gotten antsy and tried to avoid me. The big guy took off and I haven't seen him since. These fella's--I gotta keep 'em under my control or else they'll attack and fly away.

I wonder if someone's charmin' th' birds?
[Or something as the case may have been. It certainly seemed like the case, but who could possibly have need for all of those birds? It wasn't just the eagle that had wandered off after all.]
no subject
[Though, he felt the tug of will on the birds, realizing just how strong it was given how often he had to refresh his spells to keep them contained. The longer he did it, the more often he felt the birds were growing weary from being around him--so, he didn't mind letting them fly off to relax and calm down once in awhile.]
Course, 'charm' might not be the right word to use. 'Compulsion' feels a bit more appropriate.
[Namely, a charm was closer to a trigger. It was a positive sensation that was easily invoked, because it utilized existing interests and desires to help something go from Point A to B. The only existing factor that made the birds act similarly was simply in their species--they were all birds.
It wasn't affecting any other type of animal, after all, even if some of them had similar traits. Plus, given how violently many reacted, it wasn't at all a peaceful trigger.]
I haven't heard anything strange about the seasons, myself. The folks native to this land are just as puzzled as we are.
no subject
[Then at the very least they weren't the only ones confused about it. Whatever it was hadn't affected Angus, the pups or her cub, she knew that much, which was a good thing. Merida didn't have that kind of feel for magic yet, and she wasn't sure if a tracking rune would let her track them down if it was a compulsion spell. She raises her free hand to pinch the bridge of her nose with a sigh.]
Birds disappearin' an' on top of this weather...
[It wouldn't surprise her if someone tried placing the blame on a shardbearer.]
Just when you think you understand th' way this world works it goes an' does things like this.
no subject
Thinkin' you've got a grasp on the world is a bad mistake to make, Princess.
[He was no Mark Twain, but Cu Chulainn lived in the Age of Gods. Of all things, he could attest to how ridiculous the world was.]
Whether it's some strange issue with the birds or an endless cold--nothing in the world's a guarantee except for one thing.

[She stands in front of him as he sits down, tilting her head to regard him at the sly smile he gives her. Honestly, trying to make sense of the land of the fae had been her downside to begin with, especially given that it was said in tales it didn't make sense much. Merida let one of her hands find her hip, the other dropping to her side before she shakes her head with a roll of her eyes, sitting down next to him.]
An' what would that one thing be now?
no subject
That you'll look lovely in any season.
no subject
Sometimes I wonder if there's nothing between your ears.
[Reaching up, she tugs at one with her forefinger and thumb, then lets go of it.]

Tilted just a touch by Merida's fingers, Lancer gave her a happy little look before his eyes settled back on the gray skies above. He was in a much better mood with her around. Since she could help him keep the magic up in the castle and make everything stay warm, he wouldn't have to fuss so much. That much was enough to keep him from remaining grumpy.]
Can't call myself clever, y'know? I've got to get you to admit that to me, yourself.
[He was slowly beginning to forget all the work he had to do.

Merida glanced down at the pups nestled underneath her cloak, one yawning and poking his head out from underneath to look up at the sky. She honestly felt a little embarrassed by his faith in her magic, considering that she'd only just started to use it, and so her cheeks remained flushed, tinged a pinkish hue.]
Well, I can't have you go thinkin' you're smart all the time, can I? Need to make you work for it.
