August proved to be a more quiet month as the weather got warmer and she kept herself out of Daonna. The wound on her cheek had healed, leaving behind a scar from under her eye and down to her chin, but Merida didn't mind so much. It was a reminder, like all her scars, not to be so prideful. As it's the warmer month out of all the summer months, she wears lighter dresses, more suitable for the weather.
The month is spent around the fortress, without much of anything else to do otherwise. Sometimes, when she has nothing else to do, Merida can be found training one of three things. Her magic - be it runes or fire, she looks like a sorceress, though the way she moves is more like a close range fighter. Other times she can be seen fighting with one or two of the soldiers that have come to call DunDealgan home, a tall native Seelie woman in particular with piercing green eyes and a stern expression, parrying her blows with relative ease as she blocked her lady again and again. Diarmuid takes her through activating her shard once again, given her different feelings in regards to her home and her mother. They start to train in fire after that, when he requests it of her, only to be pushed back by the shadow now tainting his flame. Diarmuid informs her of his contract with his new Master - Aly Red-Hand, the woman Merida met at his birthday and danced with under the stars by the bonfire in Treun. It's here that she learns about the bleed over, the fact that he's capable of taking on vampiric traits. She tells him that she's not scared, that she accepts it and every part of him. They sit and talk for a while after, where Merida accidentally lets slip that her birthday was back in June.
In the middle of the month, the two of them visit the Cothromach's Sunsoak Markets, and Merida finally meets Lady Sansa in person, while Diarmuid asks her an important question after she finds a new sword for herself. She finds herself absolutely stunned, unable to believe that someone like Diarmuid would wish to have her as a daughter, but she accepts, because isn't that the way she's always felt about him?
Besides not knowing when she'll see her own father again, who's to say she wants to go home anymore?
