Just because they are too foolish to give you what is yours doesn't mean you still don't shine like the brightest star.
Having not been in the Drabwurld for the previous summer, Merida hadn't known what to expect. Summers in the Highlands were balmy at best, at least at the beginning. Having heard about the Treun tournament the month before while taking care of the swans, she drags Diarmuid there in the hopes of cheering him up. It had been a while since they spent some time together after all.
Traveling to Treun, Merida decided to put herself forward for the jousting tournament in Diarmuid's honor, but ultimately lost to Loras Tyrell, due in part to using Angus as her steed, according to Hiro Hamada anyway. During the day, she ran into Saber, who was looking for a present for Scian, Rin's adopted boy. After a talk, Merida bought him a black wolf plush as a comforting reminder of the Black Shuck, and left Saber with a kiss on the cheek.
At night, a rather frivolous dance was had with a woman who introduced herself as Aly Red-Hand, who Merida came to know as Diarmuid's new Master. Later on in the night, at the tent, she's joined by him and Gilgamesh, and finds herself the unwitting lap pillow of the King of Heroes. Not that she minds of course, her feelings towards Gilgamesh were far less antagonistic as of late, slowly finding more and more to encourage from him.
The 24th, Litha, saw Merida's birthday come and go without a fuss. It was already an unsure subject for her for so long, having witnessed her father lose his leg to Mor'du when she'd been younger. She doesn't mind the lack of fuss, though, letting it pass her by without a mention to anyone else.
